$10 Investment In My Mornings

As with anything in my life, a deal pops up on a deal site and the gears start turning in my head: How can I make this work for me to make my life “easier”?

Such a deal popped up last week and I jumped on it. This Shower-Mate bluetooth speaker was marked down to $10.49 and it seemed like just the thing to make my mornings go at least a little smoother.

Here’s what it looks like installed in my shower. Nothing fancy, but it sure did make my shower experience easier to deal with. My problem is that I tend to space out when I’m in the shower. No matter what I do, try and try and TRY to stay focused on shampooing, etc… I still lose 30+ minutes in the shower. When I value my morning time so much, that’s simply unacceptable! My mind wanders off EVERYWHERE, who knows where? I can’t even tell you where my thoughts are while I’m in the shower. Sometimes this is my best thinking time and where I come up with some good ideas. 99% of the time, not so much.

You may be thinking that I wanted this speaker so that I could listen to music in the morning. No, not at all! You see, up until about a month ago I was taking hour long walks in the morning and listening to audio books. I was really enjoying that for a while, but then life got in the way and the walks aren’t as appealing anymore. I started throwing a Wii workout into my morning and that actually is making me FEEL a little better physically than those long walks were. This just means I am not getting in as much audio book time as I would like to in the mornings.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about rolling out of bed at 4:00-4:30 am and filling my mind with such information first thing, but I gave it a shot this morning anyway. I really liked having the ability to listen to my audio book in the shower! I felt I was much more focused and my morning has been a lot smoother – *especially* for a Tuesday! Now, I just hope this trend can continue.

So… what am I listening to you may ask? Well I’ve been listening to a lot of different books lately. Most have been VERY helpful and informative, a few not so much.

My current listening choice, one I had forgotten I put myself on the waiting list for, is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R. Covey.

7 Habits

I am finding it quite interesting, but there is SO much information here. I definitely will need at least a second listen to the book once I get through it the first time.

Worse case scenario in all this? Maybe I actually LEARN something new. 🙂
